FORMER Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has broken his silence as to why he refused to contest the forthcoming general elections, saying that the bloodbath going on in the state as a result of the insurgents’ activities called for sober reflections and not contesting elections.

  Fintiri, who spoke to The Guardian Friday in Yola, said that contesting elections when he did not know the whereabout of many families in the state is to prove to the world that he had no respect for lives of the people.

  “I cannot contest elections when the dead bodies and blood of my people are every where. Contesting elections when many families are mourning their relations is the greatest disrespect anyone can show to world of the disregards for those that he wants to govern,” he said.

  The Speaker of Adamawa state House of Assembly, Fintiri pointed out that he stayed away from contesting any election to join those mourning their relations to pay special tribute to those that were killed by the insurgents and find a way to assist those facing hardship as a result of the Boko Haram attack.

  On the allegations that he joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and was picked as running mate to Mr. Makus Gundiri, Fintiri did not only refute the allegations, but described those behind the allegations as idle politicians who are out to blackmail others in order to feed their families.

  “I want to repeat it again. I am a bonafide member of PDP and I remain a strong member of the party and would work for my party to win elections in the state and Presidency.”
