AHEAD of the March 28 presidential election, the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has said that the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was already jittery hence it has been deploying various antics to clinch on to power despite its waning popularity.

Igbokwe, who spoke with The Guardian in Lagos, said the PDP’s fears primarily informed the polls’ shift, adding that the ruling party had no hiding place after its 16 years of visionless leadership.

He added that the APC offers a paradigm shift from the decadence that characterised the PDP years of misrule, saying that the APC was ready given its manifesto and roadmap to give Nigerians the much-deserved but eroded leadership.

Meanwhile, former northern councillors, under the aegis of Council of Former Councillors of Northern Nigeria, have pitched their tent with the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), President Goodluck Jonathan, for next month general elections.

The councillors, drawn across the 19 northern states, in a statement jointly signed by their Chairman, Umar Aliyu and Secretary, David Duniya, and made available to The Guardian yesterday after their meeting in Kano, condemned provocative utterances of some politicians, cautioning religious, traditional and opinion leaders against heating the polity.

Also, the National Commercial Tricycles and Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (NACTOMORAS) yesterday trooped out enmasse in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to express their support for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.

NACTOMORAS National President, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Hassan, who addressed the rally, said his members would deliver over nine million votes to President Jonathan in the presidential poll.

Also, Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Branch of NACTOMORAS, Malam Ibrahim Musa, said: “We are out to show support for President Jonathan for a well done job.”

Igbokwe further said: “The PDP is like a drowning man who clings on something in sight for survival; they took Nigerians for a ride for 16 years living in falsehood, elevated corruption and ended up dividing the nation along ethnic and religious lines more than ever before. But the APC is determined to change this ugly trend by ensuring that a new nation is born, a nation where all citizens matter irrespective of tribe, language or religion.”
