WOMEN Politicians in Nigeria on Monday condemned the recent stoning of President Goodluck Jonathan’s convoy in some Northern states.

The women made the condemnation at a meeting convened by the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

In attendance were wives of governors from all the PDP-controlled states, women politicians, non-governmental organisations and faith- based groups.

In a communiqué, issued at the end of the meeting, the women “condemned in totality the act of stoning the convoy of Mr President during his campaign in some Northern states.

“Such barbaric act should be condemned by well-meaning Nigerians.

“They should be allowed to campaign freely and tell the people what they have for them in a peaceful manner.

“Nigerians need peace because we are one Nigeria; we desire to live in peace.”

The women also called on security agencies to ensure that voters were not intimidated, adding that eligible voters should come out en mass to cast their votes during elections.

The meeting also commended Nigerian women for their support and sacrifice towards the attainment of free and fair elections.

The women were told to vote for the Goodluck/Sambo ticket with a reminder that no administration had done so much for them than the current one.

“Women should come out en mass and vote for them (Goodluck/Sambo) so that they can do more.

“Men in leadership positions should also encourage and support their wives to go out and mobilise at all levels, to ensure people vote for Goodluck/Sambo and other PDP candidates, come February 14th. ” (NAN)
