NIS arrests 40 suspected illegal immigrants in Oyo
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Oyo State Command, has apprehended 40 suspected illegal immigrants in separate operations across Akinyele Local Council.
The arrests were made following credible intelligence about their hideouts. Tayo Dada, the Oyo State Comptroller of the NIS, confirmed that the profiling of the suspects revealed that 27 of them are from Cameroon, two from Ghana, 10 from Benin, and one from Togo. The group comprises eight females and 32 males, aged between 18 and 35 years.
Of the 40 suspects, 10 identified themselves as farmers, while the remaining 30 claimed to be involved in online marketing. It was gathered that all the individuals had entered the country through unauthorised entry points and did not possess residence cards or any travel documents when interrogated.
In response to the arrests, Dada stated that the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, had ordered that the suspects be repatriated to their respective countries of origin.
