The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has strongly condemned the statements made by former Minister Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, urging Nigerians to “fight” for power in 2027.

The group described Amaechi’s remarks as reckless and a direct attempt to destabilise the country.

In a statement, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, commended the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, for swiftly calling out Amaechi’s rhetoric.

Nnabuike stressed that the federal government must not allow anyone to incite unrest among Nigerian youths, regardless of their past political status.

The group noted that Amaechi’s statement is ironic, given his past role in governing Rivers State for eight years and his involvement in the ousting of his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

They accused him of attempting to act as a voice of reason despite being a major figure in the previous administration under President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide expressed their support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration and urged all Nigerians, especially the youth, to reject divisive and inciting rhetoric.

They reiterated their commitment to the unity and progress of Nigeria, stating that they will not be part of any plot to undermine the current government.

“We, the Igbo youths, are fully aware of the efforts of the current administration under President Bola Tinubu to reposition the country, and we will not allow disgruntled politicians to mislead the youth into political violence. The Minister of State for Defence is absolutely right in calling for decisive action against individuals who seek to destabilize Nigeria for their selfish interests.

We, therefore, stand firmly with Dr. Matawalle and urge the government to ensure that statements and actions capable of inciting violence come with appropriate consequences. No individual is above the law, and anyone attempting to disrupt the peace and stability of Nigeria must be held accountable.

We remain committed to the unity and progress of Nigeria, and will not be part of any plot to undermine the current government. We reiterate our support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration and call on all Nigerians, especially the youth, to reject divisive and inciting rhetoric.
