Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has commended the inter-religious harmony between Christians and Muslims in the state. Radda stated this, yesterday, when he hosted Catholic bishops led by Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah. A statement issued by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Mohammed, quoted the governor as saying that there was no serious religious crisis between Muslims and Christians in the state.
This, he said, proved the high level of religious tolerance between them and hoped for its sustenance. Radda, who congratulated Catholics for having a new diocese of Katsina, promised more support towards the successful installation of an indigenous bishop to take charge of the diocese.
Earlier, Kukah had said they were in Katsina for the Tuesday’s installation of Mamman Musa, an indigene of Katsina, as bishop of the new diocese. This development, he said, pulled Katsina out of Sokoto Catholic Diocese to operate independently.
Kukah thanked Radda for his support to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state.
In his remarks, the new bishop reaffirmed his preparedness to collaborate with the state government in restoring peace and harmony in the state. Chairman of CAN, Katsina chapter, Shuaibu Liti, said the creation of Katsina Diocese would bring about growth of the church and overall development of the state.
