‘Sanwo-Olu committed to officers’ professional development’

Lagos State Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, has said that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is committed to fostering continuous learning and professional development of officers within the state’s public service.

Ayantayo gave the assurance, yesterday, duringa two-day training programme, with the theme, “Key Stages in Environmental Impact Assessments,” held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) Conference & Exhibition Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.

Hesaid that the training programme, which represents the commitment of the governor to responsible environmental governance and professional development of officers within the state’spublic service, would offer participants a unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge and understanding of EIA.

Ayantayoexpressed confidence that the knowledge and skills participants acquire from the training would empower them to make informed decisions concerning government’s projects that balance the needs of development with ecological preservation.

The commissioner, who reminded participants that they have a duty to champion the principles of EIA in their daily work, said: “You must ensure that environmental considerations are integrated into policy-making, project planning, and decision-making processes at all levels of government.”

He, therefore, encouraged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity provided by the programme, stating that the diversity of perspectives and experiences represented at the training would enhance participants’ discussions and collective understanding of the subject.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Olubusola Abidakun, who welcomed participants to the training session, encouraged them to engage in personal development to improve their efficiency in service.

According to her, officers need to train themselves first and government would build on the training acquired. She stated that the state civil service is moving at a fast pace and only the smart officers would catch up with the pace. The training, which was organised for engineers and scientific officers in the state’s public service, began with 100 participants in attendance.
