There are indications that the official coronation of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orunogege III, will be held between December 14 and 19, 2023.

This development followed the approval of a motion of stay of execution by the Oyo State High Court against the nullification of the selection process that enthroned Oba Olaoye.

Chairman of the Central Planning Committee of the Coronation, Prof. Adesola Adepoju, in a statement, yesterday, said the date published by some news outlets was incorrect, adding that the correct date is December 14-19.

He lauded media partners for their support, urging them to always seek proper clarifications from the appropriate authority before going to press. He added that the breakdown of the main event would be made public in a few days at a media briefing to be held soon.

It would be recalled that the stool became a subject of litigation after Oba Olaoye’s appointment as the Soun was nullified by the court over a procedural flaw in his nomination.

The Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomoso, on Monday, granted a stay of execution to Oba Ghandi Olaoye as the duly elected Soun of Ogbomosoland.
Issuing the order in suit no HOG/27/2022,

The presiding judge, Justice Kareem Adedokun, directed all parties to maintain status quo ante pending the hearing and determination of the appeal already filed by the defence of Oba Olaoye and the Oyo State Government.
