Stakeholders canvass responsible use of digital space
Amid the cyber security threat poised on youths, stakeholders have advocated a responsible way on the use of digital assets. The stakeholders made the advocacy during a cyberspace conference organised by Virtually Safe.
The conference, themed: “Inspiring creativity, innovative and responsible digital use,” aimed to build a safer and secure digital environment for everyone with parents, students and teachers from various jurisdictions in Lagos in attendance.
Founder, Virtually Safe, Isaac Damian Ezirim, in his opening remarks, lamented that the cyber space has challenges, such as cyber bullying, identity theft, misinformation, privacy concerns, online exploitation, underage betting, and sexual abuse materials, which have become a daily realities affecting individuals, families, and the entire community.
He said although technology had touched every aspect of our lives, transformed the way we communicate, learn, work and play, there is need to address the pressing issues in the cyberspace.
Also, Founder/Executive Director, Tech Societal, Tope Ogundipe, who spoke on digital footprint, said that an individual who leaves data behind could be used to build a profile about that person. A security analyst, Victoria Robinson, advised the youths to be particular about being safe on the Internet.
Similarly, Founder, the 100k Club, Egemba Chinonso, popularly known as Aproko Doctor, charged youths to stop using other people’s metrics to judge their lives as it causes depression.
CEO, Gamble Alert, Oluwafisayo Oke, also charged underage persons not to indulge in gambling.
“Gambling under the age of 18 is not a way to make money,” he said.
