There’s power in prayer, says Ashimolowo at Igbogbo crusade

Senior Pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) and initiator of Christ Compassion to the Rural World (CCRW), Matthew Ashimolowo, has said there is power in prayer, especially when children of God gather to seek God’s face.

The senior pastor stated this when he fielded questions from journalists at the ongoing crusade at Igbogbo Stadium in Ikorodu, Lagos. Citing examples of what prayer could do, the cleric noted that on Saturday after training, some pastors stood in the middle of the crusade ground, prayed and anointed the grounds in accordance with biblical injunction and suddenly a bird came to the spot and died.

“We have been praying and anointing the city and grounds. On the day when we had Saturday training, 2,500 volunteers showed up and after the prayers, some pastors stood in the middle of the grounds and anointed the grounds in accordance with biblical injunction and a bird came to that spot and died there. And so, there is power encounter when you take things to that level but we know who wins when there is power encounter,” Ashimolowo said.

The man of God described what God is doing at the programme as absolutely overwhelming, adding that the shock was the level of response from the people in the city and outside the city.

Ashimolowo said: “It is absolutely overwhelming because we were shocked with the presence of people on Monday. The environment, the heavens opened the waters.”

The shock was the level of response from the people in the city. This place was packed with people and they refused to leave because of the rain as they were worshipping God and glorifying Him, saying that God has visited Igbogbo Ikorodu. The atmosphere was electric and the power of God was mightily present.

“In fact, 2,000 people gave their lives to Christ in the middle of that rain, people were set free. I think we probably must have served somewhere between 20,000 to 30,000 people with clothings and food. Some of them, I thought, did not believe what we were until they came, saw, received and believed that what we were doing was real and eventually we ended with essence. In fact, I don’t know what will happen each day, particularly as they know that we will be distributing 50, 000 bags of rice, soap 30,000; sugar 10,000; salt and so on.”

As the crusade ends on November 11, Ashimolowo said: “Already, we have people from other states, which we did not envisage. Some people tried to sleep in the stadium because they came from other states and probably cannot afford hotel bills. We also have friends from France, Ivory Coast, and 120 people from KICC in London. So, we have great expectations. It is our greatest joy to show the compassion of Christ to Nigerians.
