Two Nasarawa university students die, 14 injured in stampede for palliative rice
Two female students of the Nasarawa State University (NSUK) on Friday morning met their untimely death in a stampede while struggling to force their way to partake in the distribution of palliative rice by Governor Abdullahi Sule.
An eyewitness report revealed that some students invaded the school Convocation square before the arrival of the governor and looted some 7.5kg bags of rice kept for distribution.
“When the news of the loot spread in students’ hotels more students thronged the location to have their own share and, in the process, a stampede happened leaving two students dead and fourteen others badly wounded and currently receiving treatment at the federal medical center, FMC Keffi,” the eyewitness said.
Confirming the incident, Abraham Ekpo, Information and Protocol Officer of the University said he was aware of the incident but had yet to get details on what transpired.
