Nigerian startups lobby investors at Dubai’s GITEX tech expo

No fewer than 21 Nigerian startups will be competing for grants and investors’ attention at this year’s GITEX technology exhibition and conference in Dubai, UAE. It is the 44th edition.

The 21 startups, which cut across various sectors, including agriculture, technology, oil and gas, health, and mobility, among others, will showcase their creativity to the global audience at the event, which started yesterday at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The yearly event, which showcases 1,800 startups from about 100 countries, is expected to have 1,200 investors, 450 speakers and over 200 accelerators and ecosystem partners.

The competing startups are expected to showcase their innovations around artificial intelligence (AI), identity management, mobility, Internet of Things, among others.

Some of the Nigerian startups competing for investors’ attention are Agrovesto, ATB Tech Limited, Hyperspace Technologies, Qucoon Limited, Seamfix Limited, and Veto among others.

Speaking with The Guardian, the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Agrovesto, Bayo Adewoye, said the firm is a digital and agro tech company that connects smallholder farmers to market and supports them with access to high-quality inputs and finance.

According to him, the firm has about 10,000 smallholder farmers across five states in Nigeria on its platform.

According to him, Agrovesto, which was registered in 2021, has been able to partner with the Japan International Cooperation Agency, which has helped to build digital solutions, helping to solve some identified problems on a large scale.

MEANWHILE, GITEX Global, the organiser of the event and Expand North Star are set to accelerate the world’s AI economy with a market projected to reach $2.7 trillion by 2032.

This year’s event is billed as a catalyst for redefining the world’s digital economy and AI ecosystem under the theme: ‘Global Collaboration to Forge a Future AI Economy.’
