Nigerians in the UK mourn trailblazing doctor, Nkem Ezeilo

Members of the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom continue to mourn 43-year-old Harley Street-based general medical-practitioner, Dr. Nkem Ezeilo, who died of cancer last Sunday.

An alumnus of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Ezeilo, who, according to a press release by the Uncelebrated Nigerians Awards UK (UNA), where she served as the secretary of the organising committee, was not only a “highly respected healthy lifestyle campaigner, community activist and author,” but also had “established herself as one of the leading bloggers and public speakers on health issues in the Nigerian Diaspora in the UK.”

In a press release made available to The Guardian, former chairman of the Central Association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom (CANUK), Chief Bimbo Afolayan, said:

“Ezeilo would surely be missed,” because “her tireless campaigning helped a lot of Nigerians in the UK to opt for healthy eating and living.”

The president of the Nigerian Women in the Diaspora Leadership Forum (NWDLF), Jenny Okafor, stated: “I have never known anyone as courageous as Nkem, who fought cancer so fiercely and refused to let it overwhelm her.”
