Nigeria’s Janine Obasi crowned Mini Miss Africa in Kenya

On March 28, nine-year-old Janine Nneoma Obasi left Nigeria for the prestigious Mini Miss Africa beauty pageant in Nairobi, Kenya.

She knew she was carrying the hopes of her family, her community of Uburu in Ohaozara Local Council of Ebonyi State, and the nation.

She did not disappoint at the event on April 4, winning the competition and proving that age is no barrier to purpose.

The Nigerian spirit of perseverance was evident from start to finish. From the online voting stage to the live performances, she led the way.

Representing Nigeria as Miss Africa Nigeria and Miss KAT (Kids Are Talented) London, Obasi captivated the audience with her smiles, catwalk, dance steps, intellectual prowess, and stage presence.

During the event, she spoke passionately about her culture, values, country and leadership. She encouraged children to strive for excellence in all they do, delivering a soul-lifting presentation that earned her a standing ovation.

As the crown was placed on her head, the hall erupted in celebration. The best contestant had won without question. In her victory, she embraced her fellow contestants and offered words of encouragement.

Alhaji Abass Egwu, who actively participated in the online voting and watched Janine’s performance, described her routine as extraordinary and enchanting.

He praised her talent and professionalism, confident that she would achieve great things.

He said: “Janine is a rare gem. She is exceptionally impressive, hugely talented and, in a stunning way, like a professional. There is no doubt that she will go places. “In fact, she is already going places.

In an interview before the pageant, Janine Obasi expressed her desire to be a role model for African children and promote their values and culture.

When asked about her feelings after being crowned Mini Miss Africa, she shared her happiness and pride, emphasising the honour for herself and Nigeria. She also outlined her plans to

continue advocating for children’s empowerment and making a positive impact in the world.

Janine’s advice to fellow children was to believe in themselves, work hard, and pursue their dreams relentlessly.

Described as a lovely and interesting individual, she is active, lively, and tireless.

Her natural grace and love for performance have been evident since early childhood.

Evangelist Chimezie Obasi, also known as Ajakampu, praised Janine as the pride of the nation, acknowledging her unique talents and accomplishments.

He commended her parents for recognising and supporting her gifts, ensuring that she could shine on the world stage.

Janine’s journey into the pageantry was not planned, but rather discovered through her passion for modeling. Her mother, Mrs Mercy Itohan Obasi, recognised her interest and encouraged her to pursue opportunities.

This led to Janine’s success in various competitions, culminating in her victory as Mini Miss Africa Nigeria.

After her triumph in Kenya, people of all ages gathered at the airport to seek Janine’s autograph and take pictures with the young Nigerian ambassador.
