L-R: Dr. Raymond Ihenacho, National Treasurer, Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered); Dr. (Mrs.) Christiana Atako, President and Chairman of Council, NIM, and Dr. Noel Saliu, Deputy Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC) during the Institute’s courtesy visit to the Commission in Abuja.

In continuation of her resolve to build human capital development partnership with strategic organisations in all sectors of the nation’s economy, the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) paid a courtesy visit to the National Universities Commission (NUC) in Abuja.

The delegation of the Institute led by the President and Chairman of Council, Dr. (Mrs.) Christiana V.N. Atako, FNIM, NPOM, was received by the Deputy Executive Secretary (Academics), Dr. Noel Saliu, who represented the Executive Secretary, Mr. Chris Mayaiki.

In her address, the President invited the Executive Secretary and top management staff of the Commission to join the membership of the Institute through Intensive Training for Membership Admission (ITMA) programme, promising to personally endorse their membership application forms.

She further requested the Commission to collaborate with the Institute in the area of capacity building of their resource personnel using tailor-made training programmes and in-plants. She also solicited NUC to register as a corporate member of the Institute which will entitle them to discounts on human capital development programmes for their staff among other benefits accruable to corporate members. In addition, Dr. Atako proposed the co-option of the Commission into the Council of the Institute in the New Year with a nominated representative on the Institute’s Council. She concluded her prayers by requesting NUC to include the Institute in the visitation/accreditation panels for Management courses in Nigerian universities, submitting a list of the Institute’s members in the academia for the purpose.

In response to the prayers, the Deputy Executive Secretary, Dr. Noel Saliu, promised to present the Institute’s requests to the Executive Secretary as he has no doubt that the Executive Secretary would accede to most of the requests especially those that bother on joining the Institute both as individual and corporate members as well as taking advantage of the human capital development programmes. He stressed that the world thrives on partnerships and so the Commission would be happy to collaborate with the Institute in the area of capacity building. Dr. Saliu also promised that the issue of representation of the Institute on visitation/accreditation teams to universities will be re-kindled in the year 2024. He further stated that the periodic meetings of the Commission with professional bodies will be revived in the coming year as an avenue for sharing ideas of mutual interests.
