NiMET raises fresh concern over extreme weather

Concerned about the extreme weather conditions being experienced across African countries, the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has warned of the long term impacts of extreme weather conditions on lives and livelihood of citizens.

The Director General, NiMET, Abuja Abubakar Mashi, said Nigeria is not immune to global extreme weather pattern due to its location, but warned that in the long run, it could have a devastating effect on the country.

Mashi, who spoke during the World Meteorological Day celebration yesterday, in Abuja, disclosed that in addition to the 63 weather stations in Nigerian universities and secondary schools, there were plans to install additional 100 this year.
