NIPOST issues 200,000 stamps to celebrate India’s Mahatma Gandhi

[FILES] Campaigners in Malawi won an injunction on Wednesday to temporarily halt work on a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the commercial capital as part of a $10 million construction deal with Delhi.

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) is issuing out 200,000 commemorative stamps to mark the 150th birthday of India’s peacemaker and nationalist, Mahatma Gandhi.

NIPOST’s Postmaster General/Chief Executive Officer, Bisi Adegbuyi, disclosed this yesterday during the official launch of the postage stamp at the High Commission of India in Abuja.

He described the late Ghandi as a man of peace, adding that it was not a misplaced priority to celebrity him, especially now that the globe witnesses unprecedented strife.
