NIS hands over fake recruitment kingpin to ICPC, NSCDC cautions job seekers on sham employment

Officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have arrested leader of a fictitious recruitment syndicate, Mohammed Rabiu Isa, 48, in Kano over alleged employment racketeering.

The suspected recruitment kingpin has been handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for prosecution. The commission disclosed this in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja by its Spokesperson, Rasheedat Okoduwa.

She explained that four suspected members of the syndicate, who specialised in swindling unsuspecting job-seekers with fake employment letters, while in ICPC’s custody, had confessed during preliminary investigations that they were working for Mohammed, who issued them the letters used for defrauding their victims.

Investigations also revealed that the suspects defrauded six persons of N900, 000 by promising them employment with the NIS at the cost of N150, 000 each.The ICPC further disclosed that Mohammed has been granted administrative bail and will be released as soon as he fulfills the bail conditions, adding that the suspects will be charged to court after investigations.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has cautioned Nigerians, especially those seeking employment with the NSCDC to beware of job scammers and fraudsters who are parading themselves as its agent, thereby deceiving them on non-existent vacancies.

Director General of NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana Muhammad, said online announcements of purported job placements in a 2018 NSCDC recruitment exercise, was fake and meant to deceive applicants into paying money to fraudulent accounts posted online.A statement by its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Emmanuel Okeh, said the NSCDC was not recruiting, as its recruitment process was not done through online advertisement, but that when it was time to recruit, it would make an official announcement in the national dailies.
