NNPP quashes sack of Kaduna chairman, legal adviser
The vote of no confidence passed on the Chairman of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Kaduna State chapter, Ben Kure, and the legal adviser, Ibrahim Ahmed, has been cancelled by the party’s national secretariat.
Kure and Ahmed were earlier sacked, following a vote of no confidence passed on them by the party’s State Working Committee (SWC).
The Publicity Secretary of NNPP in Kaduna, Col. Albehu Gora (rtd), stated that both Kure and Ahmed breached the provisions of Article 31:1 of the party’s constitution and Section 82 (1) (3) (5)&83(1) of the Electoral Act 2022.
He added that Kure had since been replaced by the former state caretaker chairman, Nuhu Audu, who was, until his appointment, the interim chairman of Sanga Local Council.
However, the NNPP National Headquarters, yesterday, reversed the sack and directed that the status quo should remain.
It stated: “We use this medium to inform members of the party all over the country and the general public that Mr. Ben Kure remains the Chairman of the NNPP in Kaduna.”
On his part, the National Chairman of NNPP, Dapo Olayoku, said: “Consequently, the general public is being urged to disregard the purported removal of Kure and Ahmed by an unauthorised group of persons.
“The NNPP has due regard for the rule of law and follows laid down procedures for every activity of its organs or layer of administration. The constitution of our great party has procedures for the removal of a state chairman and/or other member of any organ of the party.”
Also, the National Working Committee (NWC) called on the party’s teeming supporters in Kaduna and elsewhere to remain calm, and desist from any action capable of truncating the party’s chances in the 2023 general elections.
