NNPP S’West leader, Olopoeyan, resigns
Leaders of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the South-West, Adebisi Olopoeyan, has resigned from the party. Although Olopoeyan, in his resignation letter addressed to the Chairman Ward 1, Ibadan North East, appreciated the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of NNPP, Boniface Aniebonam, he claimed to have found it worthy to exit NNPP now, despite showing unreserved support and commitment to the growth of the party since he joined in 2022.
He disclosed that his contributions to NNPP swelled the rank and file of the party, especially in Oyo where it was hardly known before he joined. Besides, Olopoeyan had always been known as the overall leader and the face and major financier of NNPP in the South West.
The former Oyo PDP chieftain, who joined NNPP about two years ago and ascribed himself as one who made NNPP one of the major opposition parties in the state, cited personal reasons for his resignation.
However, investigations showed that his exit from NNPP may not be unconnected with the ongoing crisis among the leadership of NNPP. He is most likely heading back to the PDP, since he reconciled with Governor Seyi Makinde a few weeks to the 2023 general elections, and both politicians have since been very close.
In a statement, yesterday, entitled ‘Resignation from the New Nigerian Peoples Party’, Olopoeyan reflected on his long-standing commitment to the party’s development in Oyo.
Despite his resignation from NNPP, Olopoeyan assured that he would always be available for the party and continue his political relationship with Aniebonam.
