The Ikeoha Campaign Organisation for former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu’s governorship election in 2023, has declared that no amount of conspiracy, lies, forgeries and persecution will stop him from contesting the election.

The Ikeoha Campaign Organisation for former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu’s governorship election in 2023, has declared that no amount of conspiracy, lies, forgeries and persecution will stop him from contesting the election.

In a statement issued, yesterday, by the Director General of the organisation, Ogbonna Asogwa, the group expressed surprise at the desperation of some opponents in the state to stop Ekweremadu from running for the governorship position.

“The bribery scandal on a non-existent zoning is all in an effort to stop Ekweremadu. The forgery and manipulation of minutes of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) state caucus meeting took its makers over two years to produce.

“The intimidation of Ekweremadu’s supporters and continued detention of PDP Ward Chairman in Okpatu, Paulinus Ugwu, Joshua Ogbonna, Francis Akpa and Obi Mamah through a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) is a ploy to cow the opposition into submission,” the statement reads.

It also lamented the banning of Emeka Asogwa, Armstrong Agbo and Chief Charles Mbah for associating with Ekweremadu.

“The over N300 million squandered on rallies to drum up support for zoning is an attempt to stop Ekweremadu. All the huge state and council funds are being wasted on stopping Ekweremadu, while basic utilities and services suffer neglect in the state.

“The deployment of thugs and cultists in the state and council offices is all aimed at intimidating and stopping Ekweremadu, the group said.”

They, however, assured Enugu people that Ekweremadu would not be deterred in his bid to fashion out a new Coal City State that would provide water, employment, adequate security, pay pensions and gratuities, fairly distribute democracy dividends and opportunities, as well as ensure massive road and infrastructure development.

The group also said an Ekweremadu administration would guarantee electricity coverage across the state, youth and women empowerment, engender good governance and ensure non-interference with council funds.

“We also assure Enugu people that the criminal excesses have been duly reported to the relevant authorities and we are sure that action will be taken soon,” it added.

The group commended Enugu people for their determination to resist what it described as “the reign of terror and undemocratic tendencies,” adding: “We are happy that our recently unveiled pathway to a new Enugu is resonating with the people and that is what matters for now.”
