The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Yusuf Tukur Buratai has assured residents of Jos, the Plateau State capital that they will no more experience frequent bombings in public places as witnessed in the city in the past.

Buratai gave the assurance in Jos yesterday when he paid a courtesy visit to the Gbong Gwom of Jos, Dr. Jacob Buba Gyang in his palace in Jishe.Buratai, who was on a familiarisation tour of military units and formations under the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army told the Gbong Gwom that the Nigerian Army has already defeated Boko Haram and incapacitated the insurgents.

According to him, “You can see that our efforts in the North East have really paid off as you can recall the incessant bombings of market places and different places of worships and population areas have virtually stopped now. And I can assure you and the people of Plateau State that they will never witness Boko Haram attacks like you witnessed in the past.

“For a long time now we have not had any cases of that nature here on the Plateau and other parts of Nigeria. It is because of the efforts of the military in the North East. The Nigerian Army has not only succeeded in rooting them from their camps in the region, we have been able to block them from crossing down to these areas or building their camp anywhere in Nigeria.”

“The Commander Operation Safe Haven just assumed duty. I personally chose him to head this command because of his experience and knowledge and diplomatic skills when he was the Chief of Civil Military Affairs in Army Headquarters. I want to assure you that permanent peace will return to Plateau State,” he added.

The Gbong Gwom in his response appealed to the military to arrest the killers of Lazarus Agai, the paramount ruler of Bokkos who was killed by gunmen recently.“Our appeal is that all the security agencies must ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and made to face the law accordingly. This will add to the confidence that the people of Plateau have in the military and other security agencies.”Gyang commended the military for routing out Boko Haram insurgents and restoring peace to the entire nation.
