The Senate President Bukola Saraki has said that there is no social media bill before the Senate but a Frivolous Petition Bill.

“There is nothing like social media bill in the Senate. What Senate has is Frivolous Petition bill,” Saraki tweeted on Tuesday adding that “if any part of the bill is found obnoxious or against public interest, it will be expunged during clause by clause consideration of the bill.”

The Frivolous Petition Bill being sponsored by Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah has a clause that seeks to regulate the use of social media and short message service (SMS) in the country.

The Contentious part of the bill reads: “Where any person through text message, tweets, WhatsApp or through any social media post any abusive statement knowing same to be false with intent to set the public against any person and or group of persons, an institution of Government or such other bodies established by law shall be guilty of an offence and upon conviction shall be liable to an imprisonment for 2 years or a fine of N2, 000, 000 or both such fine and imprisonment.”

However, the Senate president has also promised to put in interest first in debating the bill.

And you expect Nigerians to stand trial for violating the Frivolous Petition Law when you have been running from pillar to post in an attempt to evade trial for false asset declaration. Does this publication violate your roguish Bill? Shameless thief!

The lawmakers should make laws that could reduce the amount they earn from the treasure, not frivolous bill, reduce the cost of governance especially your maintenance bills, the amount you earn as estacode allowances and other allowances. Pls take a cues from Mr prez and his vice. Stop deceiving Nigerian with frivolous ideas, some of you got to be lawmakers today because you stole from the treasures all over the country and stach the looted money abroad and you guys don’t want to be revealed and you came up with frivolous bills/ideas to muscle our mouths and stop ordinary citizens from contributing to your diabolical acts.Naabah or whatever he call his name should go into estinction from the political arena with his frivolous bills. All what Nigerians living abroad and at home are saying is that we need water, electricity, housing, disability bills, ajaokuta steel rolling mill revamping, infrastructural renovations, qualitative education, health care delivery from primary levels and upward not frivolous bills.
