NOA declares war on FGM, poor sanitation in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has renewed its campaign against female genital mutilation (FGM), human rights violations, and poor sanitation habits across the state.

The state’s NOA Director, Kemi Akomolafe, who spoke in Ado-Ekiti, yesterday, during a sensitisation programme, said the agency is committed to eradicating FGM, deepening public understanding of the need for high personal hygiene standards, as well as promoting respect for human rights.

“NOA is committed to fully eradicating female genital mutilation/cutting, especially among women and children in Ekiti State,” Akomolafe stated.

The event, held in the state capital, drew representatives from key agencies, including the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), among others.

National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and the Ekiti State Primary Healthcare Development Agency.

It would be recalled that Akomolede, accompanied by members of the management of the agency in the state, last weekpaid courtesy visits to the Comptroller of Immigration Service and the Ekiti State Independent Resident Electoral Commissioner.

The visits aimed to further consolidate the partnership between NOA and the agencies. Discussions focused on collaborative efforts for public orientation, education, and sensitisation.

Akomolede, however, emphasised the NOA’s commitment to collaborating with them, adding that similar efforts in the past ensured free and fair elections.
