NPC warns workers against bribes during Enumeration Area Demarcation

NBS trains 74 enumerators

The Anambra State office of the National Population Commission (NPC) has warned workers involved in the ongoing Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) against unprofessional conduct, particularly financial inducements, during the exercise.

The Federal Commissioner in the state, Chidi Ezeoke, gave the warning yesterday while declaring open a five-day training programme for 52 functionaries and fieldwork officers for Phase 10 of the EAD in Abagana, Njikoka council of the state.

Ezeoke said the officials should shun acts that could affect the exercise, stressing that its success would boost the conduct of the future national census.

According to him, the body has demarcated 228 local government areas, adding that the remaining 546 will be covered later. Ezeoke called for support from the people of the state throughout the exercise.

“The staff should be allowed to carry out their duties professionally in order to give the nation a foolproof EAD frame that will form the basis for a successful census outcome,” he said.

The NPC chief urged the officers to treat the local guides and the people with respect to ensure their cooperation. He also pledged that the local security outfit would protect NPC officials.

Meanwhile, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in collaboration with the World Bank, has commenced a three-day training for 74 enumerators for the National Business Samples Census (NBSC).

Declaring the workshop open, Edo State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Princess Momoh Omoregbe, urged the participants to take the training seriously.

saying the conduct of the National Census on Commercial and Industrial Businesses would help to increase the quantum and quality of statistics required for policy formulation, planning, monitoring and evaluation of government programmes and projects.

She said the programme is critical as the country is in the process of designing a Medium Term and Perspective Development Plan tagged “Nigeria Agenda, 2050”.

Representative of the Statistician General of the Federation and Edo State Officer of the NBS, Comrade Obaide Frank, said the information emanating from the census activity is primarily useful for understanding the nature and structure of the economy.
