NSCDC arrests two over Sallah cow theft in Nasarawa
Al Makura signs N2b contract to boost IGR
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Nasarawa said it had arrested two suspects for allegedly stealing a cow worth N95, 000 to celebrate the Sallah.
NSCDC Deputy Commandant (Operation) in the state, Mr. Alexander Barunde told newsmen in Lafia that the suspects were arrested following a tip off from sources at the cattle market at Shinge, near Lafia.
Meanwhile, Nasarawa State Government has signed a N2 billion contract with Suraj Nig. Ltd for the development of the second phase of the Nasarawa State Geographic Information System (NAGIS) to boost internally generated revenue (IGR).
Governor Umaru Al-Makura, shortly after signing the contract in Lafia said the long stretch of borderline between the state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) offers revenue potentials second to oil in Nigeria.
Barunde said one of the suspects was given seven cows to rear and he conspired with the other suspect to sell one of the cows before they were both arrested.
He said investigations were still on to ascertain if they had other accomplices.
Barunde said the case would be handed over to the appropriate authority for prosecution when investigations were concluded.
He urged members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement to security agencies, especially as the Sallah festivity approaches.
The NSCDC official also said one of the suspects had confessed to committing a similar offence during the 2014 Sallah celebration.
Barunde added that the suspect stole four cows during the last Sallah celebration and sold them in Otukpo, Benue.
According to Al-Makura, the need to expand the scope of the of revenue generation in the state led to the initiative of engaging in a sophisticated land administration project with a signing of contract in 2012 to the tune of N2.7 billion.
