In furtherance of efforts to address insecurity in schools, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), has collapsed its Rapid Response Female Squad to Safe Schools' Special Response Squad.

In furtherance of efforts to address insecurity in schools, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), has collapsed its Rapid Response Female Squad to Safe Schools’ Special Response Squad.

Commandant General of the Corps, Dr Ahmed Audi announced the change at the agency’s first quarterly security meeting with its commanders and commandants across the country to x-ray its operations, yesterday in Abuja.

He said “In fulfilment of its mandate, the Corps has already set up an Armed Unit known as Safe School Special Response Squad (SSSRS) to ensure proper protection of schools across the Country.

“To further enhance the operations of this new Squad, the existing Rapid Response Squad and the Female Squad have been collapsed into this Squad.

“The new Squad will undertake regular patrol and response to distress calls from schools and the host communities and their duties have been clearly spelt out in the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).”

Audi tasked the officers to be alive to their respective responsibilities in the face of emerging security threats occasioned by the criminal activities of bandits, terrorists, kidnappers, and farmers/herders clashes among others.

“Let me further remind you of our role in checkmating the activities of these outlaws, and the need to add bite to our operations to effectively tackle the new dimension of organized crimes for a safe and secure Nigeria,”

“I want to charge you as directing officers to redouble your efforts and remain resolute to our avowed commitment to extinguish the flame of insecurity and make the environment unsafe and unconducive for criminal elements and those with criminal tendencies,” he said.
