NSCDC nabs 25-year-old fake lawyer in Osun
Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 25-year-old man, Ayanrinde Abdulgafar, for parading himself as a legal practitioner.
Spokesperson for the Command, Adeleke Kehinde, yesterday, said the fake lawyer was recently arrested in a hotel at Ilorin, Kwara State. Parading the suspect at the Command headquarters, at Ayepe, Osogbo, the Commandant, Agboola Sunda, said the suspect was parading himself as a lawyer, thereby defrauding innocent members of the public under the guise of holding briefs at different courts.
According to Agboola, the suspect has operated in different states, using his full regalia (gown and wig) to defraud Point of Sale (PoS) operators in court premises, by collecting money, with the aim of transferring it, but disappear later.
The suspect allegedly presented himself as a barrister of law to a cab driver on May 23, 2023, and requested the driver to drive him down to Osogbo before heading to Federal High Court, Akure.
On getting to Federal High Court, Akure, he exchanged pleasantries with lawyers and approached a POS woman in the court premises for N150,000 with the aim to do transfer.
The suspect had collected the phone of the driver to share his internet facility to help him transfer the money, he entered the court premises and disappeared, only to be tracked to Ilorin, Kwara State by operatives of NSCDC, Osun State Command. The Osun NSCDC boss said Abdulgafar confessed to have committed the offence and would soon be charged to a court.
