The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has urged all personnel to fulfil the agency’s mandate by increasing security vigilance and safeguarding Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI).
The FCT Commandant of the corps, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, made this call during a security meeting with agency officers in Abuja on Tuesday. He emphasised the importance of personnel demonstrating commitment to their duties in accordance with the constitutional mandate of the NSCDC, particularly in protecting infrastructure and critical assets in the nation’s capital.
Odumosu stated that the NSCDC remains dedicated to protecting newly commissioned projects carried out by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, with support from President Bola Tinubu.
“We have increased our surveillance and our routine patrols to ensure that those who intend to cause harm or vandalise these infrastructures will be disappointed,” Odumosu remarked.
He urged his team to intensify efforts to maintain the trust placed in the Corps, reaffirming the agency’s full commitment to safeguarding CNAI from criminal activities and vandalism.
The Commandant assured residents that the Corps will do everything possible to defend national infrastructure.
He called on FCT residents to assist by reporting any incidents of vandalism or suspicious activity, encouraging them to share vital information that supports the corps’ mission.
“Security of these infrastructures is a collective responsibility. We need your support to keep these facilities safe,” he added.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious behaviour to NSCDC offices or contact the FCT Command via the provided hotlines: 09166229882 and 08159066244.
Odumosu stressed the need for additional operational resources, including more patrol vehicles and communication equipment, to improve the corps’ capacity to manage security across the vast FCT.
“While we have patrol vehicles, the current number is insufficient for our security needs,” he concluded, urging increased support from both the government and the public.
