NSCDC trains private guards in Ondo

NIGERIA Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command has trained 7 private guard companies out of the 55 licensed private guard companies in the state for better performance and trendy service delivery.

As clearly stipulated in the mandate of the corps, Part II Section 1of
NSCDC Act 2003 and 2007, as amended, the corps is empowered to perform among other things: the licensing of private guards, train, monitor and supervise their activities and ensure compliance to the laid-down rules and regulation of the private companies among others.

During the Passing Out Parade (POP) in Akure, after two weeks of rigorous training by the Private Guard Unit of the command, the State Commandant, ably represented by the Deputy Commandant, Aduku Samuel, noted that the world is evolving and emphasized the need to update all security personnel in the security parlance.

He said, “In security, if you lose a month to train, you need a year to move ahead,” making reference to the new developments and innovations employed by the terrorist group in the North Eastern part of the country, Boko Haram and other criminal groups.

Aduku charged the private guard personnel to make use of all the knowledge, tactics and strategies imparted on them from the command saying, “the best form of security is self-defence, you must be able to defend yourself before you defend others.”

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Head of Department of Private Guard Unit, Assistant Commandant Arowolo Michael, reiterated the need for the training programme and lauded the 18 well-trained and equipped batch ‘B’ graduands for their readiness to learn.

Arowolo revealed that by assessment and record, the command is committed to the training of the private guard personnel three times annually for better performance and effective synergy on security watch across the state.
