NSCIA debunks false claims against Sultan of Sokoto

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has strongly debunked a misleading statement being circulated on social media, falsely attributing remarks to the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the council described the claim as “spurious, baseless, and malicious,” dismissing it as an attempt to stir controversy around the widely debunked propaganda of Islamizing Nigeria.
“The Sultan, who was purported to have made the statement, has been out of the country for the past two weeks,” the NSCIA said.

The council further noted that the Muslim community under the leadership of the Sultan comprises Nigerians of diverse ethnic backgrounds, making it unthinkable that he would make such a divisive remark.
“While we would ordinarily not respond to such falsehood, we see the need to educate the public to prevent misinformation from misleading unsuspecting individuals,” the statement added.
The NSCIA urged Nigerians to disregard the claims and always verify information before sharing it.
The statement, signed by the council’s Deputy National Legal Adviser, Imam Haroun Muhammad Eze, concluded with prayers for peace and unity in the country.
