The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has commended Governor Umo Eno for the payment of outstanding arrears owed to local government workers across the state.

The union described the development as a major demonstration of the governor’s commitment to workers’ welfare and the well-being of public servants at the grassroots level.

In a statement signed by the State President of NULGE, Anestina Iweh, the union also expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Frank Archibong; the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Akwa Ibom State and Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr Uwemedimo Udo; as well as the 31 local government chairmen for their collective efforts in ensuring the settlement of the outstanding obligations.

According to the union, the payment has brought relief to local government workers across the state and renewed confidence in government among employees who had patiently awaited the settlement of the arrears.

NULGE noted that the successful clearance of the outstanding obligations reflects the administration’s understanding of the challenges facing local government workers and its commitment to improving staff welfare, motivation and productivity.

The union further stated that the development has strengthened workers’ confidence in the leadership of Governor Eno and other stakeholders who played key roles in facilitating the payment process.

“The payment of these outstanding arrears demonstrates the government’s commitment to the welfare of local government workers and has restored confidence among our members,” the statement said.

NULGE also pledged the continued support, loyalty and dedication of local government workers to the implementation of the state’s ARISE Agenda, assuring the government of their commitment to efficient and effective service delivery at the grassroots.

The union noted that local government employees remain critical to public service delivery and community development across the state, adding that improved welfare would further enhance their productivity and commitment to duty.
