Newgate University Minna (NUM) has said that by expanding and immortalising the rich legacy of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Idris Kutigi, his family has generously donated his library to the NUM Faculty of Law.

Receiving the library on behalf of the university at the late CJN’s residence in Abuja, founder/Pro-Chancellor of NUM, Hassan Nuhu, noted that the legacy library would serve as a beacon for scholars, researchers and students, adding that it would foster a culture of learning that goes beyond the confines of classrooms.

Nuhu maintained that the legacy learning made possible by the generosity of Kutigi’s family underscored the university’s commitment to fostering a learning environment that transcends excellence.

The Faculty of Law complex named after Kutigi, commissioned on December 22, 2023, was a historic and significant milestone for NUM and the entire legal landscape of Nigeria.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of NUM, Prof Yusuf Sadiq, had revealed that the Faculty of Law was recently granted approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence operations, pointing out that the admission into the programme is expected to commence by January 2024.

His words: “The university is running four faculties and 14 undergraduate degree programmes accredited by NUC and other professional bodies. NUM is the first private university in Minna, Niger State, committed to the mission of educating students from diverse backgrounds in an innovative and interdisciplinary learning environment through teaching, research, creative community outreach and engagement for personal and national development.”
