NUPENG expresses shock over death of member, urges police to fish out killers
The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has been thrown into mourning over the death of one of its members, Comrade Emmanuel Akpojevwughe, who was gruesomely shot by yet to be identified assailants last Thursday, August 16.
Akpojevwughe, who was also known as Awo, was until his death the chairman, Dutchess Energy Oghara Unit of Petrol Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of NUPENG in Delta State.
The National President of NUPENG, Comrade Williams Akporeha, who condemned the dastardly act, called on the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the Delta State command, to fish out Akpojevwughe’s killers and make them face the full weight of the law.
The union further demanded an independent investigation into his death, urging the police to unravel the true circumstances that led to Akpojevwughe’s untimely and avoidable death.
While appealing to the deceased’s families, friends, colleagues and associates to be consoled that their colleague was a good man while alive, Akporeha said: “Comrade Emmanuel Akpojevwughe’s legacy lives and will continue to live on. His esteemed memory can never be stained or blotted out.
“The pain and agony of his demise in the past few days is still fresh and we don’t need further gloating at the anguish already inflicted. We therefore task the police and other relevant security agencies to do the needful within the shortest possible time so that justice can be accordingly served on the perpetrators,” he said.
