NURTW crisis persists as factions lay claim to presidency
In line with an Appeal Court judgment, Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa has informed President Bola Tinubu that Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya (popularly known as MC Oloumo) and his cohort were frustrating him from carrying out his duties as authentic President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Baruwa, who spoke yesterday in Abuja through his solicitor, Tolu Babaleye, alleged that the group has been dropping the names of prominent presidential aides to reportedly breach court Judgments and orders.
According to him, several attempts made to get the government to act legally have not yielded positive results.
He stated: “We want to let the world know about how some elements, suspected to be backed by some high-ranking government officials from the Villa, have been claiming to be above the law by refusing to vacate the National Office of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at Sapele Street, Plot 1236, Garki 2, Abuja even after losing the presidency of the union to Comrade Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa in all the stages of courts up to the Court of Appeal, which is the last court in industrial matters by virtue of Section 243 (4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
“The announcement of the inauguration of Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, also known as MC Oloumo, as the new President of the NURTW came as a rude and gruesome shock to the National Executives of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
“From all indications, it appears that a faction sat and decided on its own, having no recourse to the constitution of the union, or the decision and judgment of the court, and decided to select a random individual as the president of the reunion.”
