Nwoye, Chira, Emeka withdraw from PDP primaries in Anambra
The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has taken another dimension, following the withdrawal of Dr. Tony Nwoye, Dr. Obiora Chira and Idu Emeka from the party’s primaries scheduled for May 26 and 27, 2022.
The PDP stalwarts, Nwoye, senatorial aspirant for Anambra North Senatorial District, Chira, House of Representatives aspirant for Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency and Emeka, House of Representatives aspirant for Onitsha North/South Federal Constituency, announced their official withdrawal from the exercise yesterday.
A letter signed by the aggrieved aspirants was
made available to newsmen in Awka, yesterday, by Nwoye’s media aide, Pascal Candle.
The letter, addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, cited lack of internal democracy, abuse of PDP constitution, disobedience to laid down Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines and Electoral Act of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as their collective reasons.
The letter reads in part: “We, the undersigned, being some aspirants for Senate and House of Representatives in Anambra North Senatorial District, hereby withdraw from participation in PDP primary elections in the state, scheduled for May 26 and 27, 2022 on following reasons:
“Under your watch, PDP is purportedly conducting ward congress for election of three-man adhoc delegates this afternoon, May 25, 2022, at Women Development Centre Awka, instead of the 99 wards in the Anambra North zone, without a single party register, no quorum formed, leading to disenfranchisement of thousands of PDP ward members. This violates Article 1(b)(iii) of PDP Guideline and Article 15(4) of PDP Constitution.
“A situation where, uptil 1:00 pm, May 25, 2022, the panel to conduct the said three-man ad hoc delegates election has not been published. Party members came out May 24, 2022, waited from morning till night, no ward congress held and no communication was extended to our teeming party members, as to why the ward congress did not hold on the said day, and why the ward congress of May 25, 2022, is not holding at 99 wards of Anambra North District, despite the fact that there is no security challenge at the wards of Anambra North Senatorial Zone.”
