A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Olamilekan Mohammed Daniel has denied being extorted by the Commissioner of Police CP) Strike Team, Anti-Cultism and Anti-Kidnapping Unit (Ikorodu annex), who arrested him,  while he was in a car with his friends in Ikorodu area of the state.

Daniel told The Guardian yesterday, that he was taken to Araromi Police Station at Adamo in Ikorodu, where he was detained by the team but was never asked to pay for his freedom as reported by a section of the media.

Ajose Sehinde had reached out to The Guardian on Friday February 25, 2022 evening about the arrest of Daniel and immediately, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adekunle Ajisebutu, was contacted to call the men and within five minutes, the NYSC member serving with a PR/Communications firm in Lagos was released and given transportation fare.

After his release, The Guardian called Daniel to ask if any amount was demanded or taken from him and he confirmed that nothing was taken from him.

The Guardian also called him the second day to press further and he repeated that he was only slapped once during the process of arresting him.

After the report of police extorting him went viral on Sunday, he told The Guardian that one guy reached out to him and identified himself as his friend in Yaba, to which he responded that he does not have any friend in that area.

“Most of what was posted is untrue. I am currently disturbed because my dad called me to ask what went wrong,”he added.
