OAU, ASUU disagree over students stay on campus

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University has disagreed with members of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over students’ stay in school during the union’s strike.

“We wish to assure all students that the University Academic Calendar for the 2017/2018 Academic Session is very much on course,” the school’s registrar, Margaret Omosule said on Tuesday.

“There are no plans to compel students to vacate the campus until the end of year holidays and all members of the University community must be unanimous in the resolution to ensure that the Calendar remains sacrosanct,” she added.

This is coming after the OAU ASUU chairman, Adeola Egbedokun, on Tuesday asked the student to vacate the school premises for safety reasons.

“We love our students and they should go home because we don’t want them to be victims of whatever action that will accompany the strike,” Egbedokun said.

However, there have also been reports that revealed that OAU lecturers are indifferent to the industrial action at this point.

The management, therefore, urged students to disregard the directive of the school’s chapter of Academic Staff Union of universities (ASUU), asking them to leave the campus as there are no plans to compel students to vacate the campus until the end of year’s holidays.
