OAU student battles kidney failure, needs N40m for transplant

A 100-level student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Miss. Regina Abosede Babalola, has appealed for financial assistance from kind-hearted Nigerians to support a life-saving kidney transplant.

Regina had since May 2025 been diagnosed with kidney failure. She has been battling for her life at Purplemed Specialist Medical and Kidney Centre, Old Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The 18-year-old undergraduate of the Department of English at OAU is required to pay the sum of N40 million in the next two weeks for the urgent kidney transplant.

Her parents are reportedly unable to provide financial support; therefore, her peers and students have organised a fundraiser to help the ailing teenager.

According to a statement issued by the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON), Catholic Diocese of Osogbo, where Regina is an active member, the association appealed for financial support from Catholics and other members of the public.

The statement signed by the Osogbo Diocesan Youth Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Olaniyan, and accompanied by a short banner bearing Regina’s pictures and bank account details for the fundraising, read, “Good day, Frs, Srs, and dear people of God. One of our active CYON members, Miss Babalola Regina, is currently diagnosed with a kidney problem and must undergo a kidney transplant urgently. This will cost 40 million naira.

“I appeal on her behalf to generously support this cause and save her life. May God help all of us. Meanwhile, let us pray earnestly for divine healing and mercy for her. Thank you for your usual help.”

The inscriptions on the poster read, “Let us give Babalola Regina Abosede another chance to live. We are appealing for your generosity. She needs our help. Amount needed: N40 million.
