Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, yesterday, urged Nigerians to get involved in the nation’s political decision-making process towards placing the country on the path of sustainable growth and development.

He spoke just as the Benin monarch, Oba Ewuare II, stated that some of the problems confronting the country could only be solved if Nigerians agree to work together as one.

Obaseki gave his charge when he received renowned journalist and publisher of Ovation Magazine, Mr. Dele Momodu, who was on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Benin City.

Momodu visited to inform the governor of his intention to contest in the 2023 presidential election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor, who attributed the nation’s socio-economic problems to the failure of citizens to participate in the process of electing leaders, urged them to get involved to eliminate the old order of politicians and ensure the right people are at the helm of affairs.

Obaseki said: “I commend you for starting your consultation from home, acknowledging your people and leaders of your community in Edo State.

“As an Edo man, one of our key attributes is to believe in ourselves and live for what we believe in. God has endowed us with that indomitable spirit, and when Nigeria found itself at crossroads, as a people, even in the minority, we rose up to provide leadership to rescue the nation.

“The focus is on how to transit this country from where it is now to where it should be and the transition should be total. This process should not be left for those that don’t know the new order but feel they know; that will not take us anywhere.”

ALSO, the Benin monarch spoke while playing host to Momodu, who visited the palace to intimate him of his presidential ambition.

Oba Ewuare II stated that Nigeria was not the only country tackling challenges and asserted that the traditional institution would do all it could to eradicate the problems or reduce them.

He commended Chief Momodu for keeping the Ovation International magazine going and maintaining the high standard that the magazine is known for over the years.

Momodu told the monarch said his intention to run for the presidency was borne out of his dream to unite the country and save it from total collapse.

He described his many years of experience in both the private and public sector as an asset that has prepared him to deliver the dividends of good governance to the people if considered for the office of the President.
