Godwin Obaseki has faulted the allegation that he has been earning salaries and allowances from the Edo State’s coffers.

The Director of Media and Publicity of the Obaseki campaign organisation, Abass Braimah, dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s stance as “tissue of lies.”

“The party’s state chairman, Dan Orbih and its candidate Pastor Ize-Iyamu are jealous of Obaseki’s credentials. Since all they do in the PDP is business, they can’t believe that somebody can make sacrifices for his people,” he said.

It challenged Ize-Iyamu to prove with facts, the allegation that the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole collected billions of naira from former President Goodluck Jonathan during the 2012 presidential elections.

Braimah said: “Orbih and his factional candidate are fond of fabricating lies, particularly when it comes to displaying fake tellers. When has Orbih become an official of the Accounts Department of the state government to be able to be in possession of tellers, which are supposed to be officials document?

“We are inviting the police to investigate the matter because the PDP is known for forgery and misleading the public.”

The organisation restated: “Obaseki has not earned a kobo as a salary from the state government and should rather be commended.”

On the allegation that Oshiomhole collected money from Jonathan and Lucky Igbinedion for his election, Braimah asserted “it was sad and regrettable that somebody of Ize-Iyamu’s calibre could forget so soon that Lucky Igbinedion opted for plea bargain, when found guilty by the court.”

Meanwhile some traditional rulers from Edo South senatorial district yesterday endorsed Obaseki’s aspiration.

Among them were the Enogies of Ogiomo, HRH David Igiehon and those of Iguoboe, Emo, Ogha, Erhua, Osemwinda, Ibadan and Ugoneki.

The monarchs said: “We regard Oshiomhole as the political redeemer, who has come to redeem the state like Napoleon Bonaparte who came, saw and conquered his opposition for the overall benefit of his people.”
