Standard-Bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Godwin Obaseki, yesterday promised that he would introduce e-governance if elected, in order to eliminate wastage in the system.

Obaseki made the promise at a meeting with some social media experts in Benin City.

He said he would gainfully engage the youths through the social media and make the state the hub of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The APC candidate said the economic reality on ground is that the state has to look beyond oil to succeed.

He added: “We are in the era of politics of development and we need a robust civil service to drive the development. We must therefore shift our attention to the area of agriculture, electricity generation, mining, logistics and commerce.”

While stating that the only two agriculture companies quoted in the Nigerian Stock Exchange are in Edo State, he pledged to solve the problems facing the state, having been part of the government in the last seven and half years.

On tourism, he said he would build on the foundation already started by the current administration, in order to make the state a tourist attraction.

The APC candidate added that, while not neglecting other levels of education, his priority would be on primary education, so as to expose the young ones to productive engagements.

Meanwhile, a Benin socio-cultural group, Etuedoseghe, yesterday endorsed Obaseki, after assessing what they described as his laudable performance under Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

The group, comprising farmers association, market women, musicians and other professionals, urged him to build an international market in Edo South if elected.

The convener of the group, the Esogban of Benin Kingdom, David Edebiri, disclosed the endorsement.

He explained: “We are not a partisan body in the sense that we don’t attend meetings of political parties. But we are not unmindful of the good and bad works of some political parties. Consequently, we have the right to choose if those seeking a particular thing are more than one.”

Edebiri said the meeting to endorse Obaseki was held in his house.

“This is the same place we endorsed Adams Oshiomhole and today we are all proud of him. We also believe that Obaseki will work more than Oshiomhole.”

Obaseki promised to make the state greater, if given the opportunity.
