Obi named APHA road safety scholar in US
A road safety advocate and founder of GreenLight Initiative, Simon Patrick Obi, was named a 2024 American Public Health Association (APHA) Road Safety Scholar at this year’s APHA Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, U.S.A.
Obi received the APHA ICEHS Presidents’ Road Safety Scholarship for 2024, supporting his participation in the yearly conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.
Similarly, Obi joined his colleagues Mohammed Salifu to present a poster on the “Estimated Prevalence and Sex disparity of Motor Vehicle Injuries (MVI) among in school adolescents(age 12-17 years) with reported serious injuries: as Multi-country analysis of Global School-based Health Surveys from 11 African Countries”.
Reacting to the honour, Obi said: “I am honored to be named a 2024 APHA Presidential Road Safety Scholar. This recognition reflects the work I have done—and will continue to do—to advance safe and sustainable mobility locally and internationally. It also serves as a source of inspiration to further my efforts toward a safe and sustainable transportation system for all.”
According to APHA, “the Injury Control and Emergency Health Services Section works to advance injury, violence, and overdose-prevention research, training, advocacy, policy and programming.
“The Injury Control and Emergency Health Services (ICEHS) Presidents’ Road Safety Scholarship Fund is supported by leaders of national and international traffic safety organisations to help student and early career professional members attend the American Public Health Association annual meeting.”
