• Orders demolition of buildings on waterways
• State Assembly elects principal officers
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has dissolved the board of all commissions, parastatals and agencies.
According to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, yesterday, the chief executive officers of affected organisations were directed to hand over to administrative heads in their respective offices.
But the Civil Service Commission; Judicial Service Commission; Delta State Independent Electoral Commission; House of Assembly Service Commission; Local Government Service Commission; Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC); governing councils of educational institutions and Delta State Board of Internal Revenue were exempted from the dissolution.
Also, the governor has ordered demolition of buildings erected along waterways in the state.
He gave the directive during a tour of Phases I and II of Warri/Effurun Storm Water Control Projects, in Warri South and Uvwie councils.
Oborevwori said there is no place in the world where people build on waterways. He, therefore, directed ministries of Housing, Works and Lands to identify and pull down such buildings to allow free flow of water.
The governor said: “We started the inspection with Phase ll of the storm water drainage project, which is being handled by China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC). They have five catchment areas. We have looked at their works and realised they have done a lot.
“They have some obstacles and we also looked at what is causing them. We realised there are buildings on natural waterways, which is causing obstructions and slowing down work.”
MEANWHILE, members of the state House of Assembly, yesterday, have elected principal officers for the 8th Assembly.
While the member representing Aniocha North State Constituency, Emeka Nwaobi, emerged Majority Leader, Festus Okoh, representing Ika South Constituency, emerged Deputy Majority Leader.
Also, Perkins Umukoro, representing Sapele Constituency was elected Chief Whip.
The House had, on June 13, elected Emomotimi Guwor and Arthur Akpowowo as Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively.
