The Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has warned members of the State Executive Council, stressing that their continuation in office would be determined by performance rather than gossip or rumours.
Speaking yesterday during the inauguration of eight newly constructed duplexes at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Asaba, the governor emphasised that underperformance would not be tolerated.
Oborevwori clarified that contrary to circulating rumours, there is no plan for a wholesale dissolution of the Executive Council. However, commissioners who fail to meet expectations would be dismissed.
He stated: “If you are not performing, we will drop you, and that will not affect others. If you are performing, you will stay. Currently, two or three people are not performing. I told one of them today at the chapel that they are not doing well .”
Addressing the rumours, he added: “There are many rumours that the governor wants to dissolve the Executive Council.”
These people haven’t even heard from me; it just shows that people like to talk too much.”
The governor stressed the importance of initiatives and visibility among commissioners.
“As a commissioner, we don’t see you. You come with your memo and look for the governor, but the governor will not come looking for you. Others seek me out; you must bring energy and initiative to your ministry,” he said.
Oborevwori highlighted the administration’s commitment to project delivery, noting: “We have many projects to commission. We may not complete them all by year-end, but we will do our best.”
The governor said that he would emulate President Bola Tinubu by articulating all completed projects for a virtual inauguration on Wednesday in Warri.
