Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has pledged to sustain the 40 percent women representation in his administration, describing it as a deliberate policy to empower women and strengthen governance at all levels.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Ofu Chapter of the Fairwin Women Advancement Association of Nigeria (FAWWASS), Governor Ododo, who was represented by his deputy, Comrade Salifu Joel Oyibo, said the appointment of women as Vice Chairpersons across the 21 local government areas was not a coincidence but a conscious decision to give women a stronger leadership role.
Joel commended the women for their solidarity, stressing that Ofu would continue to remain a stronghold of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
He particularly praised the State Accountant General and founder of FAWWASS, Dr. Oyiza Tijani Onumoko, for her commitment to women’s empowerment and grassroots development.
He urged women in the state to maintain their support for the Ododo administration, assuring them of more appointments and empowerment opportunities.
The inauguration also coincided with a thank-you visit by Dr. Onumoko, who highlighted Governor Ododo’s achievements, including equitable opportunities for women, timely payment of salaries, empowerment programmes, road construction, improved educational access, and the implementation of minimum wage and leave bonuses for civil servants.
In her remarks, the Director of Local Government (DLG) described FAWWASS as a platform giving women a stronger voice in governance, enterprise, and community leadership, while applauding the administration’s commitment to sustaining about 40 percent women representation across the state.
