Ogun commissions Gateway Airport as Valuejet commences operations

• BAGAIA, IAC Sign MoU On Incident Investigations

As the Ogun State Government prepares to formally commission the Gateway International Airport (GWI) in Iperu, ValueJet has unveiled plans to commence twice weekly flights to the airport.

In a statement on Friday, the airline said that it would operate at the airport on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8.30a.m. to arrive Abuja at 9.45a.m. and from Abuja to GWI at 16.00p.m. and arriving GWI 17.15 p.m.

The airline also said that it would continue to review its operations at the airport.

The statement hinted that tickets had been online for sales from September 25, 2025, through travel agents and at the airport.

The airline, as part of its expansion programme, would serve the growing demand in Ogun and offer an alternative to Lagos and Ibadan for those within the GWI, Iperu catchment area.

The Accountable Manager, ValueJet, Capt. Omololu Dapo Majekodunmi, expressed delight with the planned commencement of direct flights to the airport.

He highlighted its growth trajectory in the past three years of its flight operations, affirming that it has leveraged passenger trust, partnerships and the hard work of its team to redefine the travel experience in the routes it connects across the country.

The GWI Airport, Iperu Illisan-Remo, Ogun State, was granted Aerodrome Operational Permit on August 15, 2025, by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The approval allows the airport to operate scheduled commercial air transport flights.

Meanwhile, the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA) and the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the ongoing 42nd International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Assembly in Montreal, Canada.

A statement by the Commissioner of BAGAIA, Charles Erhueh, said the agreement, the first of its kind between two Regional Accident Investigation Organisations (RAIOs), underscores a new era of international cooperation in aircraft accidents and incident investigations.

Erhueh stated that the MoU also reflects the growing recognition that safety challenges transcend borders and require stronger collaboration to strengthen aviation oversight.

The agreement was signed by Erhueh on behalf of BAGAIA, while his counterpart, IAC Chairman, Oleg Storchevoy signed for the committee.
