Members and residents of Orile Egun, Ijere-Wasimi in Obafemi-Owode Local Council of  Ogun State, yesterday, lamented that Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company PLC (IBEDC) has not come to their aid on the installation of 500KVA/33KV in the area. Recall that the community, which is accessible through Pakuro, had sent a Save our Soul (SoS) letter to IBEDC, requesting assistance to install 500KVA/33KV, they bought in the area.

The residents are made up of five Community Development Associations (CDAs) namely: Aseyori, Land of Peace, Ijere Wasimi, Ilupeju and Liberty with over 400 completed houses.

In the letter authored  by Aseyori Electricity Committee to the Managing Director of IBEDC, titled: “Request For Assistance in Installation of 500KVA/33KV Transformer at Orile Egun Junction, Pakuro, Ogun State”, and dated February 1, 2023, the community noted that it had positioned the said transformer on the plinth, planted all the High Tension poles (concrete) needed for the line and stringed the line from the nearest 33KV sources to our sub-station.

The letter was signed on behalf of the Aseyori Electricity Committee, by Olanipekun Babalola  (Chairman), Adenugba Praise (Secretary), Alfred Thompson (Ijere Wasimi chairman), Mr Olagunju Sunday, (Aseyori CDA chairman),  Akeem Lawal, (Liberty CDA Chairman), Bashiru Ibrahim (Land of Peace CDA Chairman) and Adewale Quadri  (Ilupeju CDA Chairman).

The letter read: “We the entire executive and members of the above named association humbly request for assistance from your esteemed company in the installation of a unit of 500KVA/33KV transformer in the community.

“We have completed the following tasks on this project, the positioning of  the transformer on the plinth, planted all the high Tension poles (concrete) needed for the line and stringed the line from the nearest 33KV sources to our sub-station.

“For previous efforts to yield the desired results, the community therefore requested IBEDC to help build on High Tension gentry switching arrangement with necessary accessories, mount a feeder pillar, install the L.V riser cable, earth the transformer and other relevant works that may be necessary.

“We now need to  build on High Tension  gentry switching arrangement with necessary accessories, mount a feeder pillar, install the L.V riser cable, earth the transformer and other relevant works that may be necessary.

“Our community will be highly grateful for your assistance at this juncture and promise to reciprocate this good gesture by settling our bills without delay upon completion/installation of this transformer.”

However, members of the community said the situation remained unchanged. Reacting, IBEDC through its Media Relations Manager, Busolami Tuwase, said the community must do what the local office of the power company in Ogun State had asked  the community to do. Efforts to get  reaction from one Mr. Olukoga, who is in  charge of Abeokuta office of IBEDC proved abortive, as he refused to respond to the questions sent to him.
