Ogun lawmaker rolls out food support programme with 1,000 bags of rice

Over 300 women empowered in Osun for upward social, economic mobility

A House of Representatives member representing Abeokuta North, Obafemi-Owode/Odeda Federal Constituency, Olumide Osoba, has kicked off a food support programme aimed at alleviating food insecurity and economic hardship in his constituency.

The initiative, dubbed “Community Food Support,” culminated in the distribution of 1,000 bags of rice to vulnerable households across 38 wards.

The distribution exercise, which commenced on Saturday, had been widely praised by residents and community leaders. Ward chairmen across the constituency also commended Osoba for his generosity and commitment to the welfare of his constituents.

According to Osoba, the initiative is a testament to his dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of those who need it most.

RELATEDLY, Finlite Grassroots Initiative (FGI), with the support of the Bank of Industry (BoI), has empowered over 300 rural women in Ife Central, Ife North, Ife East, Ife South and Atakumosa West in Osun State through a comprehensive programme aimed at enhancing their social and economic mobility.

The initiative, which focuses on providing women with necessary skills, resources, and financial support, marks an important step towards promoting gender equality and economic development in the region.

In her opening remarks, Executive Director, FGI, Enitan Kuku-Omonijo, said that the initiative was dedicated to helping low income women with startups or scale their existing businesses for upward social-economic mobility

Also, the Director of Programmes and Operations, Lizzy Edward, said women got tailoring machines, industrial gas burners, freezers, grinding machines, hair dressing equipment, oven and food support, noting that the initiative offers women a hand up and not a handout.

Director of Women Affairs, Osun State Ministry of Women, Children and Social Affairs, Olayemisi Oladele, said that government could not do the impact alone as they need partnership with organisations and stakeholders to move the state more efficiently empowered.
