Ogun State Police Command has arrested a middle- aged man, Sakiru Famuyiwa, at Ijeja area of Abeokuta for stealing two children during a church service.
The suspect was arrested following a distress call received by policemen at Ibara divisional headquarters. The Guardian learnt that the suspect and his accomplice, now at large, sneaked into the children department of the Celestial Church of Christ Ijeja, while Good Friday service was on and stole two children, who are two and three-year-old respectively.
On their way out, a vigilant member of the church sighted them and raised the alarm and consequently, the congregants pursued them and arrested one of them.
Upon the distress call, the DPO Ibara division, Nasirudeen Oyedele, quickly moblised his men and moved to the scene where the suspect was rescued from angry mob, who were about to lynch him.
MEANWHILE, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the anti kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for discreet investigation. He also ordered that the accomplice be hunted for and brought to book.
